Fountain
City Ministries
We are very involved
in the development and support of Fountain City Ministries,
which seeks to provide clothing, food, and spiritual support
to its clients in our community. This is an exciting ministry
which has grown very quickly and is considered to be one of
the premier social service agencies in the Knoxville Area.
Local Missions
We are connected
to and actively support several outreach ministries, such
as: Knox Area
Rescue Ministries (KARM); Emerald Youth Foundation; and
Wesley House.
Overseas
Missions
On August 16th,
we had the privilege of hosting Bruce and Emily for a covered
dish dinner. After eating, Bruce and Emy shared with us about
their work in the Middle East. They do not start churches
and build church buildings, but rather they meet with people
and share the Bible.
Bruce encourages
a few key people to teach/lead the other people in the small
groups to continue studying, learning, and worshiping together,
and then goes on to start up a new group. Bruce and Emy took
time to answer questions regarding what their “average”
day is like, the differences in men and women, etc. It was
a very enlightening evening, and several people who attended
expressed how much they enjoyed learning about Christian work
in the Middle East.
Operation
INASMUCH
Central Baptist
Church of Fountain City contacted us, regarding our participation
in the fall OIAM event. Currently, we plan to participate
in the Spring OIAM event, and skip the Fall.
As planned earlier,
any SPUMC members who want to participate will be put in touch
with the FCUMC contact so they can sign up for participation
this fall.
Hispanic
Ministries
The Hispanic Ministries
Outreach Team will be partnering with the Fountain City Ministry
Center to offer services to the Hispanic Commuity in North
Knoxville. This will include a Spanish only night for Hispanic
families to come to the Ministry Center.
The Ministry Center
is working with the Knoxville Latino Task Force to come up
with ideas that will compliment what is already planned in
the way of educational services.
Red Cross
Red Cross Comfort
Kits:
Members have been
asked to put together Comfort Kits for the local area Red
Cross office. These kits will be disbursed by Phyllis Culvahouse
to whichever evacuee facility is in the greatest need. Kits
are to be brought to the church and Linda will advise Phyllis
when there are several to pick up.
